Welcome to the JBHS Class of 2009 Project Graduation Website!
May 8, 2006
Dear Parents of the Class of 2009:
The 2009 Booster Club’s sole purpose is to organize, fundraise, and host Project Graduation May, 2009. As a parent/guardian of a 2009 future graduate you are receiving this letter to explain the purpose of Project Graduation.
James Bowie High School (JBHS) Project Graduation is an all-night, chaperoned, substance-free celebration for the graduating seniors of JBHS. The purpose of this party is to congratulate the seniors for completing their high school curriculum as well as to provide a safe, enjoyable environment for these students on their graduation night. It is hoped that these young adults will carry into the future the message that a good time can be had without the use of drugs and alcohol.
Organization of this event takes many volunteers who begin planning and working as early as now and with the assistance of the Class of 2009 Booster Club Officers (attachment 1) we will make this a very successful event for OUR graduating class of 2009!!
The time for parents to get involved is early in your student’s high school career. Please do not wait until your student is a senior—there are so many more exciting things you can participate in when your student is an underclassman!
Membership is $25 per year per student, with all money going directly to Project Graduation. All students of “Platinum level (4 year membership) will receive FREE admission to Project Graduation. Everyone who attends will receive a door prize. In the past, the prizes included $50 gift cards, digital cameras, lap tops, and a plasma TV.
Project Graduation is an expensive undertaking. The event costs approximately $30,000. In the past the event has been held at Austin Park and Pizza (approximate cost $8,000 - $15,000). Students meet at the high school and ride a bus to the event (transportation $1,500). Decorations for the theme of the event and food cost about $2700. Then there are prizes. Everyone who attends will receive a door prize and other fabulous gifts that will be raffled off during the event with the total cost ranging from $7,500 to $10,000. Membership dues are our major source of funds. So, become a member today and become part of your child’s after graduation experience.
Besides membership, there are fundraising activities planned as well. This past Spring the Booster Club sold popcorn and held a fundraiser at Taco Cabaña with a net profit around $2000. This was made possible by the current members and their hard work. The next fundraiser is planned for the new Academy on June 10, 2006. We will be selling hotdogs, sausage wraps and sodas. There are several other fundraisers planned for Bulldogs & Hotdogs, August 26, 2006, and the next school year. Your help with these fundraisers is crucial.
There are several ways you can volunteer with the Class of 2009 Booster Club. You can volunteer to work on a fundraising committee, attend our monthly board meeting (dates will be available on our website), solicit donations for raffle prizes or purchase raffle items. You can also donate drinks and food for various fundraisers or help with set up and clean up of events, like Bulldogs & Hotdogs. You can even become an officer of the Booster club. There are many opportunities for you to become involved in and make a difference in your child’s high school years.
If you are not sure where you would like to help, but know that you just want to help, please sign up as a volunteer. The officers will attempt to find the right spot for you!
This hopefully will be your first and last communication via mass mailing due to costs. The Club will ensure that periodic information regarding 2009 Project Graduation (meeting dates, fundraising events and other pertinent information) is announced in, the Bowie Bulletin, bowieptsa.org, and our webpage, http://jbhs.org/clubsandorgs/class2009.htm (Please bookmark the website for further updates.)
Checks for membership are payable to Bowie High School Class of 2009 Booster Club. Completed forms with payment may be dropped off in the Bowie Office or mailed to:
